Richard Cypher's decision to help a woman in the Upper Ven near the dangerous Boundary sires more trouble that first appeared. Kahlan Amnell seeks the Old Wizard, and she brings with her dark tiding from the other side of the Boundary between the Midlands and Westland: Darken Rahl has brought down the other Boundary between D'Hara and the Midlands. This menacing ruler continues his father's greed for control. Kahlan wants the old Wizard to name a Seeker of Truth who can stop Darken Rahl. When she finds him, the old Wizard names Richard to be the Seeker and starts him on a quest that will forever alter the world.
Wizard's First Rule: People are stupid. People can be made to believe any lie, either because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it's true.
